While on the outskirts of the forest, Heather keeps relatively quiet. When you ask about her silence, she explains her fear of attracting zombies who wander the area. But as the morning sets on and boredom overtakes her, she gets chatty and complains about the heat, the lack of a breeze, the pervasive pine smell, the weight of her backpack, the tightness of the new jeans she found in Carl's old room, and the lack of anything good to eat in the last few weeks. Surprisingly, she adds in how thankful she is for having her brother and best friend around, having food at all, the safety of the Cathedral, and the chance today to get outside and possibly shoot something.
