This again?" Tom states. "I thought we were past this."

"Sounds like you don't want to talk about it."

"Of course I don't. It's a lie told by a man I thought was my friend, just to manipulate you into setting him free."

You lean back and observe Tom. As he speaks, your sixth sense is screaming that he is holding back information or even blatantly lying. His eyes dart around the room, and you can see he is sweating from his forehead as he speaks. He seems so believable, but you recall Carl being so calm and genuine when telling you of Tom's betrayal.

"Carl may have been lying; of course, we'll never know the truth. But his allegations worry me, Tom."

"What do you want me to say? He's a liar who betrayed all of us. And unless you have real proof of his allegations, I don't want to talk about this again."
