S2-30: Quitting

The sun had set.

In the room where Lily and Ezra were rested, the glowstone stayed on. Ezra was unconscious and continued to sleep while Lily was wide awake, her eyes wide. She clasped her hands and tried not to think about the hours she had spent forcing herself to stay awake while the darkness threatened to consume her with every passing moment.

Lily glanced to where Ezra was.

If she had managed to stay awake long enough, he wouldn't have gotten hurt like that. But still, she was glad not to face whatever could have caused those injuries to him.

The longer she remained silent, the more her mind wandered. There was much more out in the forest, some things far more dangerous. She may have found comfort in knowing that her magic protected her, but she would eventually have to sleep. She had never been more afraid of falling asleep. What if she was attacked during her sleep? What if a monster had followed them to where they were now?
