Sudden Changes

There were two stairways between each floor. When the door of the cold storage room was opened, it was inevitable that something would happen. After entering the cold storage room and being isolated from the zombies, whether it was due to the temperature in the cold storage room or the fact that they had to return to the third floor, they would have to eventually come out of the place.

If they wanted to return to the third floor, they had to distract the zombies. Someone had to do it or else they would be trapped in here. Even Alice, Beatrice, and Gordon, who was stronger than the rest, wouldn't be able to break through a group of zombies.

Therefore, the plan was to lure the zombies away after they entered the cold storage room and before they came out. The student at the stairway, Will, received a message from Alice. After about ten seconds, he started the plan that Alice had mentioned to him beforehand. He took a deep breath and calmed himself down.

Even though he had adjusted his mental state before he left, it was inevitable that he would be nervous he was to be near the zombies, and he still needed to attract the zombies to chase after him. He raised his foot and stomped on the ground.

Thump—

The noise was incredibly audible in the empty hall on the second floor. Next, he revealed himself to the dozens of zombies that surrounded the door of the cold storage room. All of the zombies noticed Will and gave up on the survivors inside the cold storage room. They turned and ran towards him.

Will was under the stare of so many zombies, their gaze was mad and vicious. It sent a chill down his spine and his leg felt weak. However, he managed to muster his strength and ran upstairs.

At this moment, the electronic door on the third floor was fully opened under Chris' control. Will quickly ran in while Chris quickly closed the electronic door again.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The zombies that chased after him along the stairs were blocked by the electronic door. They pounded on the door with all their might and created a series of irregular sounds.

Will looked over his shoulder at the zombies and gulped. He was extremely scared. If he had been slower, he would have been torn into pieces by these zombies.

Back on Alice's end, the plan was going according to plan and she counted the time in her mind. About half a minute later, she opened the door of the cold storage room. Beatrice and the others held their weapons, keeping an eye out for the zombies outside the door that might not have been lured away by will.

Phew...

The door was completely opened. There were no zombies outside the door. Apparently, all of them had been lured away. Alice and the others felt a little relieved. If nothing unexpected happened, the operation would be completed very soon. Alice closed the door of the cold storage room again and led the others to the other side of the stairs.

'The only thing I need to pay attention to now is whether zombies will appear from the other side of the door...' Alice thought to herself.

However, even if there were zombies there, there shouldn't be many. With her, Beatrice, and Gordon, it wouldn't be a problem to deal with a few zombies. It would be even better if they were as lucky as when they arrived and there weren't any zombies on the stairs.

However...Something unexpected happened as they were halfway there. A few zombies suddenly jumped out from the stairway that Will had led away. They found Alice and the others, their eyes filled with malevolence and violence.

"Oh my God!"

Alice didn't expect that the zombies, who had been attracted away, would unexpectedly return here instead of staying on the third floor. It wasn't an accident, no matter how well one prepared, there was always something that was bound to go wrong.

Before the operation began, Alice thought of many factors that could go wrong. She even discussed with Chris, Beatrice, and the other students, to see if there were any loopholes in the plan. In the end, she came up with a temporary plan, and many things were predicted in advance without detailed planning.

However, what they didn't expect was that Will's stomp was too loud. Not only did it reverberate through the hall on the second floor, but it also reverberated through the stairway and reached the floor below. That stomp attracted the few zombies that were on the first floor. Coincidentally, the zombies bumped into Alice and her group who were returning to the third floor.

However, Alice obviously didn't have the energy to think about these things anymore. Being discovered and attacked by zombies was the worst-case scenario that could happen once they have decided to go to the cold storage room. What was supposed to be a smooth mission was now in its worst-case scenario. However, Alice was a grownup and she was able to calm and collected, and she quickly regained her composure.

"Everyone, snap out of it. Quickly run to the stairs over there!"

Without needing Alice to give further instruction, Beatrice had already reacted. She raised the knife in her hand and went into an attacking posture. Gordon stretched his thick arms. The 50-pound sack was tied to his shoulders with ropes, making him look like a student carrying a backpack. A few of them began to rush to the other side of the stairs.

Several zombies were attacking them head-on. With Alice at the front. She swung her arms holding the wooden stick. The nearest zombie was hit by the kitchen knife tied to the sharp end of the wooden stick. The blade was not very sharp, but Alice's was not at all weak. Her knife sliced into the zombie's neck by a few inches. Then, she pulled back the knife with all her strength and hit the zombie so hard that it staggered and fell to the ground.

A zombie raised its two withered hands and intended to grab Alice and go for the kill. Right before Alice could react, a figure flashed by her side. Beatrice held the knife in her slender right hand and displayed a strength that did not match her delicate appearance. She hacked the zombie down from above. The five fingers of the zombie's hand were all cut off by her and fell to the ground with blood flowing.

Roar!

The zombie cried out in pain.

Beatrice didn't show any emotion on her face. Facing the zombie in front of her, she launched another attack. While the zombie was still screaming, Beatrice leaped into the air and cut the zombie's mouth with her knife. The zombie's lips were split open, but Beatrice didn't stop. As her feet landed on the ground, her small hands wielded her knife and stabbed toward the zombie.

The knife stabbed straight into the zombie's head, who had now become more miserable because of Beatrice. The entire knife went through the zombie's brain. Its movements and screams came to an abrupt stop.

Although Gordon had such heavy food on his back, his movements weren't restricted. A zombie pounced at him from the side, wanting to bite him.

"Hah!" Gordon shouted angrily.

The veins on his forehead were visible. The iron rod in his hand seemed like it was hitting a golf ball as he struck the zombie that pounced toward him in the air. The huge force made the zombie spin in the air.
