This is a nice distraction from what I need to be doing, and I won't waste time like this normally. I'm watching this because it's rare for Players to put items and Permanent Bans on the line.
A Duel in a city is usually to settle a dispute or show how skilled and powerful you are. Yale and Kellison press buttons on their interfaces, accepting the terms of the Duel.
[Player Kellison has staked Blueprints of Black Metal Armor toward the winner of this Duel!]
[Player Yale has staked Permanent Ban on Loss towards this Duel!]
[Do both Players accept these terms?]
Everyone watches as Kellison instantly clicks accept on the screen in front of him. The system has named the stakes, and all we're waiting on now is Yale.
You can see that he's coming to question his choice, but Yale is a prideful and impulsive man.
"C'mon, Yale!! We're all waiting!!"
Someone shouts from the crowd, and everyone joins in.
Further pressure is put on the man, and the weight of his actions is starting to hit him. There is a desperate glint in his eyes, and that has come too late.
He could swallow his pride and leave. Being banned from the greatest VRMMORPG is a heavy toll. Libertas will only continue to grow in popularity.
Those left out are screwed. We all watch as Yale accepts with a shaking hand.
[Player Yale and Player Kellison have agreed to Duel!]
[The Winner gets the Black Metal Armor Blueprints!]
[If Player Yale loses, he'll be Permanently Banned from Libertas!]
Every single one of us watching sees the shaking mess that Yale has become.
"See where your anger and pride get you!! You're an idiot!!"
Another person from the crowd starts to apply pressure on Yale, and the counter to the beginning of the match is coming down.
With 20 seconds left, silence overcomes everyone. Waiting for the start of the Duel.
This Duel will be an up-close and personal one. They're both Players that use bladed weapons. Kellison is using an Iron Straight Sword, that's Uncommon in Grade.
But solid for Players around the current average level. Yale is using a one-handed Steel Battleaxe and Small Shield for Parrying. Their levels are similar.
Yale is level 22, and Kellison is level 25.
The slight level difference balances out since Yale is using a Small Shield. It's made out of wood and leather. The only thing it can be is a Common Leather Shield.
It'll help him in this fight, and his one-handed Battleaxe is made of Steel, giving it better stats.
The counter slowly comes down to 5 seconds left, and everyone is watching with intensity.
The second the counter reaches zero, the Players are allowed to move. Kellison leaps forward, laying on an assault.
Yale uses his Small Leather Shield to Redirect and Block any attacks he's getting. But Kellison isn't giving him a chance to attack. They're both going to run out of Mana fast.
Using attacks and blocking requires Mana.
If Yale can't get out of a negative headspace, he'll eventually fall to Kellison. He's only defending, and it's hard to win a Duel if you're doing only one thing.
Kellison does something Unorthodox.
He stops attacking for a split second. Grabs Yales Small Leather Shield and physically opens his guard.
"Talk about bold..."
It's a risky move, but Kellison can see that Yale was unprepared for this.
The new opening allows for Kellison to bring his Iron Straight Sword down and slice across Yale's chest.
The reason he didn't cut through his shoulder and body is cause Yale moved out of the way from a fatal attack. But he's been heavily wounded.
"Damn..."
He's barely audible, but we hear him. He's lost almost half his health. This fight is over.
Kellison rushes forward and kicks Yale's Small Leather Shield. Unbalancing him and causing him to stumble. He uses this opportunity to trip him, and Yale falls to the ground. He loses his Small Leather Shield.
"WAIT! PLEASE, WAIT!!"
Great, here comes the begging... It's too late for that. The terms of the match have already been made. Kellison stops with a smile.
One that would hurt anyone's pride after losing to him. Looks like they're going to have a final talk, since Yale knows he can't beat Kellison.
"Please, cancel the Duel! I'm begging you!! I don't want to be Permanently Banned from Libertas! This is the best thing in my life!"
He's become a pitiful mess and one that can only solidify a prideful man's desperation.
Kellison looks like he's about to talk, but I take a breath instead.
"There is nothing that can be done. The terms of the Duel have been set. Once you lose, you're Permanently Banned. There is no way out of it."
People look at me slightly and nod their heads in agreement. Some whisper that they didn't know a Duel couldn't be canceled. Yale looks at the ground in defeat as Kellison approaches.
