32. How to be A Teacher

Ben has succeeded to motivate the students to train & learn magic more seriously. His method is not really the correct thing to be used on kids like them, but it works, so it's fine.

After that training, Ben let them rest to restore their MP for the next lesson. Wendy go with the students to play with them during their rest time. Carla follows her, while Bella stays with Ben.

While they rest, Ben goes to the Headmaster's room to talk with the old man. He has another reason to agree on taking this as a weekly job.

*Knock knock* Ben knock on the door of the Headmaster's room.

"Come in!"-Headmaster

Ben opens the door and enters the room. He sees the Headmaster & Raul inside. Ben knows Raul from the picture that he saw when he took the job.

"You've done a great job, Ben. We've seen your training with the students just now."-Headmaster

"Thanks, I just taught them what I usually do in my training."-Ben

"Little Ben, I have a question for you."-Raul

"What is it?"-Ben

"Why'd you taught them to use their magic immediately rather than telling them the theories behind it? If they don't learn it, they won't understand the principle behind their magic."-Raul

"Did you think they will understand some difficult words that we read from a book?"-Ben

"No."-Bella

"That's your answer."-Be

"Eh?"-Raul

"These kids aren't so bright when it comes to thinking with their head. But it doesn't mean they're stupid, they just need a different method to learn. They learn by doing and watching, not by hearing or reading difficult theories."-Ben

"But magic usually learned from books or notes, so won't they need to be taught with that too?"-Raul

"Book, boring, difficult."-Bella have displeased expression

"You're right, but not now, maybe in the future. They're still learning the basics now, no need to make them do something that they aren't capable of. They won't keep being like this forever, and as a teacher, your priority is to make them understand. What's the use of having a teacher if they can't understand anything?"-Ben

"Useless teacher."-Bella

"!?"-Raul get a realization

"A teacher's job is to help their students learn something they can't learn, not something they can. If they can't understand theories, then it's your job to make them understand. But rather than keep trying to put those theories into their head by talking, show them how to do it!"-Ben

"But other teachers do it like that, and it works for their students. Is it really impossible to use it on these students?"-Raul

"Just because it works on others, doesn't mean it'll work on them. A teacher shouldn't just stick to one method, you need some different methods. Every student is unique, and you need to know how to teach them properly based on that."-Ben

"Hmm, different methods, huh?"-Raul ponder

"Just like how useless it is to teach math to an artist because they don't really need it and are not interested in it, there's no use teaching theories to these students that don't like to hear theories. Children their age like to play, so you need to make it fun for them."-Ben

"So I need to show them that magic is fun and make them motivated to learn it, huh?"-Raul

"Yeah, basically you need to show them that magic is not difficult to learn. But they also need to know that they need to work hard to reach a high level in it."-Ben

"Hmm, I will look into it deeper, thank you, Little Ben. Headmaster, I will take my leave to learn about this more thoroughly."-Raul

"Alright, I expect a great result from you, Mr. Raul."-Headmaster

"Yes."-Raul

Raul leaves the room while thinking of how he needs to change his teaching method.

"That guy isn't so bad."-Ben

"Yes, he is passionate, but he is too stiff & strict. Then just like what you said, he is sticking too much onto theories. Well, he is new and has just taught for 1 year with easier students, so he lacks experience with students like these."-Headmaster

"Then why don't you ask other teachers to teach these kids?"-Ben

"Sigh, other teachers don't want to do it, and they might do worse than him. Mr. Raul really wants to teach these kids because he believes in their potential. But he just didn't know how to do it."-Headmaster

"Those teachers just want to stay in their comfort zone, huh?"-Ben

"You're right. Anyway, what makes you come to my office, Ben?"-Headmaster

"Ah, that's right. Headmaster, I want to get access to your school's library."-Ben

"Library? Alright, you're also a teacher here, so I will allow it. I'll also give you full access as thanks for helping Raul and those kids. This is my biggest problem right now after all."-Headmaster

"Ooh, thanks then."-Ben

That's right, Ben's other reason to take this regular job is to have access to the library. He needs more knowledge about magic, and a magic school's library is really good for him to get it.

Even though magic school like this doesn't have very rare magics like Magic Guilds, but their collections are vast. Magic Schools are made for children to learn magic, so their magic collections are usually just beginner magic spells & theories.

However, teachers have access to more knowledge & higher-grade spells. Every school wants their teachers to have high competence after all.

Furthermore, Magic Schools are owned by the Kingdom. So their magic books collections are very vast in number. Even if all those collections aren't something like Lost Magic or Ancient Spells, but there is still some high-quality magic knowledge.

Ben return to the class after getting the permission from Headmaster. In class, the kids are resting while talking to each other about their previous training. Ben smile hearing them evaluating their own mistakes and try to find solutions for them.

'Good, they're not wasting their time and use it to learn from their mistake. Your last mistake is your best teacher after all.'-Ben

Ben enters the class, and the students immediately stand up and salute him.

""WELCOME, COMMANDER!""-Students

"Yes, good job."-Bella return the salute

"It's not for you Bella."-Carla

"Bella is Commander."-Bella hold her ground

"Sigh, whatever."-Carla

Ben ignore the cats and sit on the teacher's chair.

"You can ask anything before we start the next lesson, starting from Ron, like usual."-Ben

After Ben said that, the students start to ask him about the problems that they've found. They've asked Wendy before, but she could only answer a few.

Ben answer all of their questions easily because their questions are still basic. He answers their questions for half an hour before he begins the next lesson.

"Alright, now I'll teach you how to raise your MP capacity. You can train it while training your control, so it can save your time and make your progress faster."-Ben

Ben teaches them how to raise their MP capacity, which is just to keep using their magic until their MP depleted.

"So we need to use magic every day to learn the control & raise our capacity?"-Cya

"You're right, it will also raise your magic mastery and make your spell stronger. Basically, if you want your magic to be stronger, you need to keep using it for training. So this will be your daily task from now on."-Ben

After that, Ben takes them to the training ground again and teaches them hand-to-hand combat. They can do the magic training at home by themselves, he'll just teach them something that they can only learn in school and need his guidance. That's how he thinks a school should be.
