77. Unknown Island
3 hours after Ben fainted, the ship arrived at the island. It is very far from the mainland, that's why it hasn't been found before. The island is rather big and it has a wide forest.
Marc wakes Ben up and tells him that they've arrived. Ben wakes up with a pale face, but he feels better now because the ship has stopped. It doesn't shake around again, so Ben's motion sickness has stopped.
Marc helps Ben to walk to his car that located far in the back. They finally arrived and Ben get in his car. He immediately feels a lot better when he sits in the car.
'Phew, I'll never get on a ship again,' thinks Ben while driving his car out from the ship.
Ben leaves the ship and finally land on the island. He leaves his car and takes a deep breath.
"Land is always the best," says Ben happily.
"Haha, so even an S-Class mage has a weakness too," says the ship's Captain who walks toward Ben.
"An S-Class mage is still a human too. No one is truly omnipotent," says Ben.
"I guess you're right. Then, we will let you do your job, while we will patrol around the island. You can call us through a communication lacrima if you need anything," says the Captain.
"You can return to the mainland, you know. It might take days for me to investigate this island completely," says Ben.
"No, we can't do that. If something happens and you can't solve it, then we need to know it and report it. Of course, we don't want that to happen because a threat that an S-Class mage can't solve must be very dangerous," says the Captain.
"Hmm, do whatever you like then," replies Ben.
Ben then gets on his car and leaves with Bella. They will explore the island by car to cover it faster. Ben also keeps using his magic sensory to detect any magical things around him.
They drive into the forest and look around through the windows. The forest seems normal so far without anything unusual. The creatures here are not so different from the ones on the mainland too.
"Hmm, it will surely get faster if I use the car, but I won't get any detail this way. Maybe I'll walk after driving around by car," ponders Ben.
Ben drives deeper into the forest because strong creatures usually live there. So far, he only sensed weak magical creatures that normal mages can defeat. There's no human trace to this island, which means that no one was here before.
As they get deeper into the forest, Ben can sense that the creatures are getting stronger. Some creatures are looking at them too and run away because the car looks like a beast for them.
"Sigh, using a car to explore the island is really not effective. I really need to explore by foot later," says Ben.
Ben suddenly get alerted after he said that. He senses some creatures with strong magic power coming from the front left direction. He drives his car there to find out the source of that strong magic power.
When he arrives there, Ben sees some brown reptiles with draconian features except wings. They look like Wyvern, but very different from the Wyverns that Ben knows. All Wyverns possessed wings, so these guys are just Brown Lizards.
"Brown Lizards? I've never seen this kind of Lizard in any book that I've read. Are they endemic to this island? And they live together, very unusual for reptiles," ponders Ben.
Ben takes a picture of these Lizards using his lacrima camera. There are around 7 Lizards that Ben sees right now. These guys are quite strong too and Ben can feel that they're close to S-Class.
"They're not as strong as the Wyverns, but they're still strong. Hmm, if they're the strongest creatures here, then this island isn't that dangerous. But I need to check everything first," says Ben.
The Brown Lizards have realized Ben's presence, but they don't do anything. These Lizards aren't aggressive even though they're rather strong.
Ben leaves the Brown Lizards and resumes his exploration. He goes deeper into the forest again to search for anything unusual. But Ben doesn't find anything until the sky turns dark.
He decides to stop his exploration for today and rest. Ben makes a fire camp beside his car and roast a big piece of meat that he brought. He gives Bella her milk before they eat together.
They sleep in the car and activate its defense systems. The car is the safest place for them to sleep in the wilderness like this. There might be some dangerous creatures that are active at night, so they need to be careful.
His hunch is right because some creatures have come near the car. They're drawn by the smell of meat that Ben roasted before. They lurk around Ben's car and try to find the roasted meat.
The creatures start to come out from their hiding one by one. 5 big black wolves with a drill horn, a lion-like creature with black mane & red scales, a dark blue bear with a pair of long fangs, and there's a big bird like an owl with metal wings, beak, & claws.
Ben has realized these creatures' presence. But he keeps silent and just uses his lacrima camera to take their pictures. He can sense that they're individually stronger than the previous Lizards, but they're still not a threat for him.
'Low-leveled S-Class creatures. These strong creatures seem to be more active at night than day. It seems the competition in this island is fiercer at night,' ponders Ben while trying to sense if there are other creatures.
The creatures look at each other and try to intimidate their competitors. Ben just looks at them with amusement and ponders on who will win. He had never seen wild beasts like them fight before, so it make him curious.
Surprisingly, the creatures aren't fighting, but they attack Ben's car together. It seems they want to get the meat instead of fighting that can kill them. They still prioritize their stomach more than domination.
However, Ben's car is protected by some layers of magic shields. Those shields are strong because Roubaul was the one who made them. These creatures won't be able to break in even if they work together.
"Hmm? Morning?" asks Bella with sleepy eyes. The attacking sounds have woke her up from her sleep.
"No, it's still night. That's just the sounds of some night creatures," says Ben while rubbing Bella's head.
Bella nods and she closes her eyes again. Ben activates the soundproof systems in the car to let Bella sleep. He continues to watch the creatures trying to break the car's shields.
"You won't be able to break anything, even the first layer. Even I need a lot of effort to do that. Gramp's magic item is just that strong," says Ben while smirking.
Just like what Ben thinks, the creatures can't do anything to the shields. Even after they used their magic, they still can't make a scratch on the shield. They just tired themselves out and waste their energy.
Ben decides to sleep and let the creatures do what they want. He just let his lacrima camera record the situation. It will be a good report for his job later.
Ben & Bella sleeps while the creatures still trying to break in. There's no sound heard from the car because of the soundproof systems. So Ben & Bella can sleep peacefully without any disturbance.
Time passed and morning come. Ben wakes up from his sleep and doesn't see any creatures outside. They must've given up, it's obvious. He forgets about that and gets out of his car. But the sight around his car makes him surprised.
"What the hell? What happened here?" asks Ben with a shocked expression.
What Ben sees around his car are patches of blood and flesh. They scattered on the ground & trees around his car. Something has happened here when he sleeps.
