379. Territorial War

Ben is so proud of Wendy because she has defeated Mermaid Heel's best Mage. He keeps praising her when they are in their Guild's lodging that night. Wendy surprises him by activating Drive Mode in her battle after all.

He's so proud he drinks so much that night. Ben never drank alcohol too much, but this is a great moment, so he drinks a lot. He can see his first family member in this world growing into an amazing Mage in front of his eyes.

Apparently, that's not enough to show how proud Ben as a big brother is. He keeps bragging about it on the last day of the tournament. They continue it after 3 days of rest, and Ben keeps bragging about Wendy's victory in those 3 days.

That's why everyone is tired of it and they ignore Ben's bragging. Luckily, he doesn't do it the whole day and stops when the last game is going to start. He needs to be a commentator, so he stops talking about it and focuses on the game.

The last game will decide the winner of this year's tournament. Fairy Tail has 68 points, Lamia Scale has 65 points, Sabertooth has 63 points, and other teams have far lower points. Other teams' chance to win this tournament is small, but they still have a chance.

The last game's point format will give all teams a chance to win, albeit small. It's because the last game can give them a total of 80 points. But getting all those points will be difficult and almost impossible.

It's because the last game is named Territorial Warzone. In this game, each team can choose a base anywhere in the Royal Capital except for the Castle and Stadium. The whole city will be a battleground, just like it was last year.

Each team now needs to protect its bases from other teams and capture other teams' bases to get points. Each base gives them 10 points and losing a base cost them 10 points too. But their mission isn't just capturing bases, they need to protect them until the game's time limit of 5 hours.

That's why it's almost impossible for the teams to get 80 points because they only have 5 members. Defeating their opponents also doesn't give them points and there's no disqualification for those getting defeated. So the ones getting defeated can try to capture bases again.

50 points are the highest they can get if all 5 of their members can capture and defend 5 bases including theirs till the end. The only way to get all 80 points is by making sure all their opponents lose their bases and can't defend it till the end by immobilizing them.

Each team needs to mark the bases they have with flags that have their guilds' symbols. So the points will be counted from the number of bases that have their flags when the game ends. It's quite a simple game, but it's not an easy game.

They start the game and the spectators are surprised to see all the contestants are not moving. It's an obvious strategy considering how this game works and the 5 hours time limit. If they capture other bases now, they will need to defend multiple bases for 5 hours.

Instead of that, they choose to move in the late game so they'll only need to defend for a short time. Maybe they will start attacking in the last hour and prepare their attack now. So there won't be any action for 4 hours which is really bad because the spectators will be bored.

But the organizer is prepared for this because they predicted this would happen when they made the game. So they've prepared something that will start the action of this game. Ben participated in creating what will appear soon.

The Castle's main gate suddenly opens up after being closed for this game to prevent the Mages from using it as a base. Then, armored troops come out of the Castle, and they all look very sturdy. There are a few types of troops and even weapons among them all.

Thousands of troops come out of The Castle and gather into 8 groups composed of 150 soldiers each. The groups then move separately and everyone immediately knows where they go. They are marching to the teams' bases to launch attacks.

Ben's participation is he made all those sturdy troops using the Arc of Embodiment. So he knew what the game is, but he didn't tell anyone. He's also the one controlling all of them right now. But that's also a big problem for the Mages even though all those soldiers are made to be normal Knights without any magic power whatsoever.

The biggest problem is Ben controlling them, so they will fight really well even without Magic. Ben might be the most experienced Mage when it comes to fighting Mages without using Magic, after all. Also, 150 isn't a small number that can be ignored even if they are Mages.

The Knight Platoons reach the bases after a while and start their attacks. They stop quite far from the bases first where most Mages won't be able to attack them even with ranged spells. Then they start shooting the Mages' bases using Giant Catapults.

Giant boulders are flying toward the bases and surprise the Mages. They start doing what they can to defend their bases by destroying the boulders. But these aren't real boulders because when they get destroyed, they release numerous mini bombs that rain down the bases.

The bases are getting bombarded and no team can defend against this surprise attack completely. Ben is grinning from ear to ear because this is very fun. He was an elite soldier in his past life and he was trained for this kind of war without magic.

He used modern weapons in his past life, but the concept is still the same. So this is quite fun for him because he can show off his skills that he never used completely in this life. Well, he never really used it in his past life because he was just a soldier back then and hasn't climbed the rank yet because he was still too young.

Still, he was the best in his generation when it comes to strategy-making. He was even praised a lot by the higher-ups and projected to be a strategist after gaining more experience. But his life came to an end after he killed civilians that murdered his family.

Ben has moved on from that, so it doesn't matter anymore now. The most important thing now is he still has his strategy-making skills. He's not the best strategist, but his strategy is unique and can't be predicted by the Mages.

They get overwhelmed by the Platoons' attacks that can't be predicted. No one knows what the Knights will use next and their bases keep getting hit by the attacks. The Knights also focus on long-ranged attacks now and use strong long-ranged weapons that can't be defended easily.

Ben equipped his Knights with long-ranged medieval weapons. They also have powerful cannons that can destroy the Castle Walls though. The cannons are by far the most annoying weapons for The Mages because they have power and range.

Scarmiglione and Orochi's Fin Teams are destroyed by the siege attack in the first hour. So now, 2 bases are occupied by the Knights and the others are having a hard time defending their bases. Every team tries to reserve their power for their battle against other Teams in the late game, that's why they are overwhelmed easily.

But they can't really hold back now because they will lose if this continues. So they start defending their bases and attack the Knights seriously. They left their best defenders in the bases and send their best attackers to attack the Knights that have spread in the areas around them while shooting long-ranged weapons like crossbows.

The remaining teams finally get rid of the Knights in the 3rd hour. Ben tried his best, but he couldn't do much about the power difference between normal people against Mages. He has made significant damage though, and the spectators are happy, so it's good enough.

Now, the teams will start competing again because now they know that it's not easy to take over the bases. So they need to start attacking now if they want to succeed. Also, there are 2 bases that have been captured by the Knights which really tempt them.

Chapati fan the flame and asks, "Now, which team will get another base first and dominate the Territorial Warzone?"
