Giving a Statement

After returning to the outside world, we found that the area where the dungeon occurred was surrounded by soldiers.

As soon as we appeared, the soldiers came and escorted us to the mall that had been turned into a command center. There, we were made to wait while the staff of the association took our statements.

Normally, this process was much more casual, however, the incident this time was very big. Thousands of people were trapped inside the dungeon, and in the end, only twenty-five people survived.

This was the greatest dungeon incident in many years, so the government was forced to take it seriously.

While I was waiting for my turn, I heard the sound of gunshots and battles coming from outside. Apparently, the soldiers and men of the association were clearing the stragglers that we failed to kill.

Around one hour later, it was finally my turn.

I was led to a room where a middle-aged man in a suit was waiting for me seated at a table.

He gestured for me to sit at the seat across from him. Once I sat down, he opened his mouth.

"Jane Walker, sixteen years old, Tier Two Awakened and possessor of two skills, [Lightning Seed] and [Physical Strengthening]. Is it right?"

"It is."

"Perfect. Now, tell me everything that happened from the moment you fell into the dungeon."

I nodded and recounted my experience, trying to say as few lies as possible.

I only lied about the fact that I killed two of the robbers, and instead, I only mentioned that I saw them robbing the bank.

I had already told the others to corroborate my story, so there should not be anything wrong.

When I finished giving my recount, the man tapped the desk twice with his pen before looking at me.

"You said that the man that chased after you was killed by the spiders, right? Is that really true?"

"What do you mean?" I frowned.

"Well, perhaps you killed him."

I put on a startled expression before smiling self-deprecatingly.

"Mister, I'm just a Tier Two Awakened, and he is a Tier Five Awakened. There is no way I can kill someone like him."

"I think so as well. But there are some inconsistencies with your story. How did you survive to the spiders when a Tier Five Awakened did not manage to survive?"

"I was lucky." I shrugged.

The middle-aged man stared at me fixedly before finally nodding.

"We will investigate his death. If we get any important information, we could call you again."

"I understand."

The middle-aged man then asked me a couple of questions more after that, before finally allowing me to leave.

When I left the room, it was already dawn.

I found my mother waiting for me outside the room. As soon as she saw me, she sighed in relief, walked toward me, and hugged me tightly.

"… I'm glad you are alright."

"Mom."

"My child, do you know how worried I was? Why are you always involved in these kinds of incidents?"

A feeling of guilt filled my mind. It was not my fault the first time I fell into a dungeon, but this time, I came here knowing that a dungeon was going to appear.

My mother and sister probably were very worried, but they did not know that I put my life in danger knowingly.

However, I quickly shook off that thought and hugged my mother back.

"I guess I'm unlucky, mom."

"Yeah. I should buy you a charm or take you to a church to see if your luck becomes a bit better."

"Mom, these things don't work."

"That is true." My mother smiled wryly and rubbed my hair. But then, her expression became solemn.

"Son, tell me the truth about the man that tried to kill you."

I fell silent before nodding and telling my mother everything, only hiding the things related to the demon.

My mother is someone that I can trust completely. There is no need to hide what happened from her.

As expected, her expression became serious when I finished talking.

"So you killed two men, huh. What about the woman? Did she survive?"

"I did not see her afterward, but I'm not sure."

"I understand." My mother nodded. "Don't worry, I will take care of the rest."

"Thanks, mom, and sorry."

"What are you talking about? You are my son. And don't feel guilty about killing these scums. I taught you to be a good person, but I also taught you to protect yourself if someone wants to harm you. You did the right thing."

I smiled wryly and nodded.

"I know."

"That is my son. Now, go back home and rest. I would have liked to go back home with you, but there are some things I need to take care of here. Don't worry about your friends, they already left and are alright."

I nodded again, but before leaving, there was something that I needed to request from my mother.

"… Mom, among the survivors of the dungeon, there is a little girl. Her name is Chelsea. She lost her last mother in the dungeon."

My mother was startled, but she quickly understood and put on a complicated expression.

"That girl, huh… Don't worry, Kalie took her to her home with Jessica and Karime. As for the rest, we will talk about that later."

"Mm. Thank you again."

"Sweet dreams, Jane."

I hugged my mother again before walking away.

Sigh, I'm really tired. I only want to take a bath and fall asleep.

With a wry smile, I left the cordoned area and searched for a cab.

But at that moment, I heard a car honking.

Surprised, I looked in the direction of the car, only to see a beautiful woman waving at me.

"Cutie, do you need a ride?" Mary asked with a smile.

I smiled in amusement.

"Beautiful miss, can you take me home?"

Mary smirked. "Of course. But we are going to my home instead."

Meanwhile, in the mall.

Helen furrowed her brows as soon as her son left. With an ice-cold expression, she took out her phone.

After searching for a number, she dialed it and put the phone in her ear.

A few seconds later, a gloomy voice came from the other side.

[Shadow here. What do you need, director?]

"I need your help with a small problem. I will send you the information in an encrypted message." Helen's voice was chilling, like the coldest glacier.

[How much time do I have to solve it?]

"I need it done for tomorrow."

[… Understood.]

Helen said nothing else and hung up the phone. She then sent the information regarding the woman in the group of robbers to the man.

In fact, from the moment Helen learned about the man that tried to kill her son, she investigated everything about him. She already knew who the woman that her son mentioned was, and she also knew that she had survived.

Now that her son told her the entire story, she decisively took action.

A couple of hours later, a message entered her phone.

[Done.]

That was everything the message said.

Helen nodded slightly and put the phone back in her pocket, as though nothing happened.

She did not feel the slightest amount of guilt for what she had done.

Anyone who dared to touch her children deserved to die.

The next day, news about one of the survivors of the dungeon committing suicide appeared on tv.

She was the last member of the group of robbers.
