White Coats

White Coats.

A small criminal gang made up of mostly young men. They have been involved in several crimes such as petty thief, vandalism, and drug distribution; but never something major.

Although the police have caught some of their members on several occasions, and even a couple of their leaders, new blood always comes to replenish their losses a couple of weeks later.

Although it's not impossible to exterminate them completely, it's not worth it. If the White Coats are exterminated, a new gang will appear a couple of months later.

Plus, their crimes are always small. Most of the time these crimes are not enough to send them to jail. There are several small gangs like that in the city, and the police don't have time to deal with all their petty crimes.

However, something about the White Coats has been different recently.

Recently, they started to act in a more organized way, stopping their petty theft almost completely and focusing mostly on drug distribution.

Moreover, they have increased their range of operations considerably, even taking over the territory of other gangs.

This recent change has attracted the attention of the authorities, but because the White Coats operate carefully, no action has been taken against them yet.

There are several rumors about the reason behind their recent change.

One of them if that they got a new boss. A considerably strong Awakened who has taken the job of leading them.

Another rumor is that they got the backing of someone important, and this person is using them to accomplish their goals.

Recently, they are suspected of being the group behind the distribution of a new experimental drug that enhances awakened. Although there is no solid proof, everything seems to indicate that they are the culprits.

It's very likely the authorities will take action against them soon.

I finished reading the information about the White Coats while stroking Scarlet's fur.

"What do you think, demon?"

[They are just scapegoats.]

"So you think so too, huh." I sighed.

I came to the same conclusion after I finished reading.

Although the White Coats seem suspicious, it's quite obvious they are just a facade someone put to take the blame for their actions.

I'm almost 100% sure that the White Coats know next to nothing about the drug. They are just a tool used by someone else.

'No, wait. It should not be that simple.'

This drug is not just any drug, but a method used by the owner of a piece to replenish their soul energy. There is no way he will leave such an important plan unsupervised.

In other words, someone in the gang may have a relationship with the owner of the piece.

Although it's just a conjecture, It should be right.

This is my only clue now.

Unfortunately, there is a problem.

The information I received doesn't include the location of the White Coats' headquarters or where I can find them.

I furrowed my brows briefly before taking my phone.

[I need more information.] I sent a text message.

A reply came almost immediately.

[Have you talked to the director yet?]

I frowned and texted back.

[Not yet, but I'm going to do it soon. Please, help me this time.]

[Young boss, you are going to get me into trouble. Okay, I'll send it to you tonight.]

[Thank you.]

I sighed and put my phone back into my pocket.

[When are you going to tell your mother?] The demon asked.

"It's not that simple. I need to think about it a bit longer."

[However, if you continue using him to get the information, your mother will learn about this eventually.]

"I know." I sighed. "However, I don't have another way to get this kind of information. I will think about what to say to my mother later."

I should be able to think of an excuse by then.

Now, I should get going, or I'm going to be late for class.

On the way to class, Ley was holding my arm with a happy smile.

She should be still in the hospital, but she insisted on returning to class because she was already feeling better.

Although the doctor was reluctant and wanted to keep her under observation for a couple of days more, I knew that she was out of danger.

Mother was not happy with the idea, but fortunately, Ley and I managed to convince her.

Just when we were about to arrive at Sanctuary's First, I saw someone waiting at the entrance while looking around with an anxious expression.

Her long black hair and expressionless look were the same as last night.

It was Hela.

As soon as she saw us, she rushed over and grabbed my hand.

For some reason, she seemed a bit uneasy.

"What happened?" I asked.

"A nightmare." She replied with a downcast look. "The curse was out of control."

I smiled wryly and cast Confidence, using it to create a barrier and control her curse.

When Hela felt that her curse was again under control, she sighed in relief.

"See? It was just a dream."

"Mm." Hela nodded and smiled softly.

... Wait a moment.

Something is wrong.

Ley is calm.

Too calm.

I could not help but look at Ley. She was smiling softly, as though she did not notice that Hela was holding my hand.

"What is wrong?" She tilted her head.

"You alright?"

"Yeah, why?"

"No, nothing."

It's just that you should be dying of jealousy by now.

How odd.

I decided not to pay it any attention and headed to the classroom while Ley and Hela held my hands.

When we entered the classroom, all the eyes fell on us.

After all, Hela was a loner who never talked to others.

Andrew and Sylvia seemed particularly curious.

Unfortunately, a professor entered just a few seconds after we arrived, so they could only hold their curiosity.

As soon as he entered the classroom, Professor Javier opened his mouth.

"Good morning, students. Before starting the class, there is something I need to announce." He said with a strangely solemn tone. "From today onwards, some new students will join your class."

Wait, it can't be.

I have a bad feeling about this.

And as expected, my bad feeling was made a reality.

From the door of the classroom, several non-human individuals entered one after another.

At the same time, the classroom was filled with a heavy and almost hostile atmosphere.

"Please welcome the exchange students from the eblor and celer races."
