Chapter Six - Enemy Attack

"Enemy fleet detected. It is the Voids. They are moving through this system at FTL. If we're to stay here, battle is inevitable. It contains two hundred ships, of which a third are dreadnought-class ones. The rest are smaller ships of battleship, cruiser and fighter classes." Alyss stated a report, after a few Heris of my training, breaking my focus.

I got up while holstering my weapons, saying: "Get ready for battle, Alyss. Annie, you stay in your room, please. Can't have you getting killed, since i don't know of your combat skills."

Then, I've headed for the CIC, or the bridge, you could say, in quite a hurry.

Even through the fact that we were only a one-ship strong, we had more firepower to defeat that fleet. The major problem was foot battle or the enemy may have some equipment specifically made against my ship. There were only the two of us, but the enemy had more soldiers to board us. So we had to make sure that they won't board us.

I've sat down in the control chair, which resembled the captain's and readied all systems for the upcoming battle. Then Alyss moved away from Earth farther into the solar system so we won't accidentally hit the planet.

"They are coming out of FTL in 30 seconds of local time. Get ready". Alyss added.

The enemy fleet jumped out of FTL on time, not knowing of our presence, as Alyss cloaked herself before we moved onto their collision course. As they approached our location, I've activated all weapons, boosted our shields and launched all drone fighters. We were ready for them now. "They are within primary weapons range. Should we fire?" Alyss said.

I have entered the command input to disengage cloaking systems and commence weapon fire. Millions of shots of various types then came out of our weapons, hard hitting the enemy fleet, as they tried to scatter and take some evasive maneuvers to dodge the barrage of weapon fire raining upon them.

With our initial strike, they were down by 40 percent of their total fleet strength, but the other 60 percent successfully evaded the barrage and headed for engagement with us within closer range. Our weapons were not so accurate at that, so we were at a slight disadvantage. To add things up, their fighters were carrying weapons specifically made for breaching strong shields and defenses and also carried their airdrops. So even if we prepared for such a scenario, there were simply too many of them.

We still fired upon the fleet, which quickly closed the distance, reducing them by additional 15 percent, but they successfully descended and dropped their payloads. Then Alyss, alarmed with the current situation, yelled: "The enemy has boarded us. They are currently in the main hangar, main shield system room and the core reactor room. There are over two thousand attackers aboard." I said in a hurry: "Initiate containment protocols. Make sure no one leaves their location. I'm going there."

I've visited the guest room, ready for battle. Annie was watching out of the window the fleet, which was now all around us. She started: "Hey, what's going on? We are under attack, are we?" "Yea, we are. Do you have any weapons with you?" I replied. "No, I don't. Do you think I can borrow something from you?" I've unsheathed my twin blade and handed it over to her, while casting a skill upon it, which allowed her to use it. "Here, take this. But return it back after you're done."

She looked at the weapon's intricate patterns and runes, saying: " You're giving me your primary melee weapon, and you're not worried I'll run away with it?" "No, not at all. And even if you do, I'll find you wherever you may be."

And with that, we left the room, going separate ways. I took the core reactor and she took the shields. I said over my shoulder: "Just be careful. We've just met, and you're already fighting alongside me. Don't underestimate the enemy. They are well armed."

I've teleported over to the core reactor room, inside which it had ten big spheres centered one around the other, each had six giant metallic rings orbiting them, collecting energy from them. There stood someone, who was probably their hacker, next to the control console, fiddling with it, clad in purplish armor, which was clearly of Void origin. He was surrounded by a hundred of soldiers, which they were in a guard stance, ready for any battle. I took my PAC (particle accelerator cannon) from my back, and charged it with my energy. Three seconds later, I fired at the hacker. The enemy just noticed, that there is someone else amongst them, and turned to me. It was too late for them to save their technician, though. He immediately turned into golden dust after being hit by my weapon. The other soldiers then returned fire back to me. Even though their guns didn't harm me, they continued firing. After that, I started killing one after another using my gun, but with the reactors behind, I quickly swapped weapons from my PAC to my daggers and jumped in.

Then, they literally stopped in their places, as I jumped in between them, far faster than anything they've encountered. I was using my time-space manipulation skills to kill them faster than they were able to inflict any damage on me or Alyss herself or react in any other way. I looked like a ghost, moving in between them, slashing them up and ended killing every one of the enemy soldiers. It took me around ten Mis to kill them all, though

After that was done, I went in and checked the core reactor control console to see if there's anything they've messed up. I ran a simple check-up protocol, and saw that our shields and weapons were sabotaged. "So that's why the enemy fleet is still out there.." I murmured.

I immediately started running through different protocols to reverse their hacks, which were set inside there. I really wondered how they did that, though. This console was supposed to be un-hackable, yet they hacked it. Also how they did it the way they did, so Alyss did not see anything happening to her. I really needed to enhance the firewalls once again..
