The Vote of The Seven Dukes Part Two

Feng Lin clicked on the screen in front of her and began to explain the reason for calling the meeting: "Duke Chen Sha's wife, Yingxian Lorraine, had applied to Alicata Life Research Institute to join mutant's mutation gene research team. As I am Duke of District 2 and Director of Alicata Life Research Institute, I've summoned everyone to vote for a decision. The relevant documents have been sent to your workbench, please check."

Zong Li's gloomy and cold voice utter out: "How can such an important research allow an outsider to join?"

Feng Lin asked indifferently: "Director General of the Supreme Court, is the applicant a citizen of Odin Federation?"

Zuo Qiu Bai said: "The applicant is a citizen of the Odin Federation."

Zong Li said coldly: "She is Yingxian's royal princess. The Al Empire is written in her genes."

Feng Lin snorted coldly: "I don't want to have a meaningless debate with you. You have the right to vote or veto."

Zong Li said merciless: "Rest assured, I do not forget!"

Chu Mo clicked on the front screen below: "The applicant has no relevant knowledge and no research experience. How can she carry on with the research?"

Feng Lin looked at Lorraine encouragingly and signaled her to answer.

Lorraine stood up: "I will start from the lowest level assistant, studying and working at the same time."   

Chu Mo said: "Scientific research requires a huge concentration and devotion. Are you sure this is a job you like?"   

"I'm sure."   

"Thank you for your answer, I have no more questions."   

Lorraine bowed to Chu Mo and sat back to her seat.

Feng Lin asked, "Are there any questions?"   

No one speaks.   

Feng Lin said: "Then we will carry on with the anonymous vote. The intellectual brain will count the results."   

Lorraine clasped her hands and looked down at her personal terminal on the wrist.

Perhaps, after she walks out the door of this meeting room, she might find that not only she did not get a job, but also lost the only friend.

Two minutes later, the monitoring intellectual brain asked: "The voting result has been done. Do you want the announcement?"   

Feng Lin said: "Announced."   

"Three votes agree."   

Lorraine raised her head sadly. Feng Lin was disappointed. Zong Li sneered and stood up wanted to leave.   

"Three votes against."   

Lorraine was stunned.   

"One votes abstention."   

Zong Li frowned and sat back.

Feng Li probed: "Vote again?"   

Zong Li coldly said: "Director General of the Supreme Court, is there any practice of voting again?"

Zuo Qiu Bai said: "This kind of situation, the application can only be invalidated. If there is no major change within three years, no further application can be applied."

Zong Li stood up and walked outward. Bai Li Cang got up and followed Zong Li behind. Chu Mo smiled apologetically to Feng Lin and stood up.   

Chen Sha suddenly said, "There is one more person who did not vote."  

Everyone looked at Chen Sha.   

"The Consul also has one vote."   

Bai Li Cang gave a short laugh: "Hopefully the place where the old man is now is free from electromagnetic interference."   

Feng Lin immediately commanded the intellectual brain: "Contact Consul."

In the empty meeting room, the dial sound of the intellectual brain gave out a noise: "beep beep, beep beep..."   

Lorraine hold her breath and wait quietly, feeling like every sound was a beating on her heart.   

After a long wait, the beep disappeared.   

The virtual screen became dark. There was no image and there's also no sound. When everyone thought that it was not connected, there was a snapping sound come out.   

Feng Lin hurriedly said, "Consul, the signal is very poor, where are you?"   

"...the beast...in the belly, the terminal...corrosion...etc..."   

The scream of wild beasts and various weird sounds came. After a while, the signal became a little bit clearer.   

"I'm hanging from its stomach wall with a dagger. It's on rampage. Say quickly."   

Feng Lin immediately said: "Chen Sha's wife applied to join my institute to participate in the sudden mutation changes research. We now have three votes agree, three votes against, one vote abstention. We need your vote."   

"Chen Sha, do you agree or against?"   

Lorraine raised her eyes and looked at Chen Sha, unexpectedly Chen Sha also looked at her. They look at each other in their eyes. She felt very nervous and anxious.   

"Consul, it's an anonymous vote!" Feng Lin stomped with anger.   

Chen Sha withdrew his gaze and said to the dark screen: "I vote agree."   

Consul said: "Agree."   

The signal was cut off.   

Everyone was in silent.   

Ten seconds after, the intellectual brain spoke: "Received new votes. Do you want the announcement?"   

"Announce!"   

"Four votes agree, three votes against, one votes abstention."   

Feng Lin smiled triumphantly: "Director General of the Supreme Court, does the application effective?"   

"Effective."   

The intellectual Brain announced: "Approval of the applicant, Yingxian Lorraine, to join the Alicata Life Research Institute, effective immediately."

The door of the meeting room opened.   

Everyone walked out of the meeting room one after another.   

Feng Lin gave a wink when she walked pass Lorraine and said ambiguously, "Don't forget to treat Chen Sha well."   

Chen Sha left the last. He walked to Lorraine's side and stopped.   

Lorraine said, "Thank you."

"No need. I just respect Feng Lin's choice. She is the manager of the project. Since she's picked you, there must be her reason. However..." Chen Sha paused. His eyes fell on Lorraine's face like a knife. "If one day, you betray Odin Federation, I will kill you myself."   

"I won't let you have this opportunity."   

Chen Sha looked away and took large steps out of the meeting room.   

Lorraine was alone, standing quietly in the empty meeting room.   

It has been several months since the day she set foot on the Odin Federation. She finally took her first step.   

From the day of after wedding's banquet that no one was willing to talk to her, until today's vote was passed. Could it consider as a success? But there was no slightest excitement and joy.   

Lorraine raised her wrist. There was no expectation, but she found that there were new messages on her personal terminal. Both of them were sent by Qian Xu.

"I said that it takes some time to understand yourself. This understanding was not only refers to what you like, but also includes what you need and want. People who can follow their heart desire and be themselves are worthy for admiration. But those who chose by their choice to be materialist and for self-interest are not wrong too."

"I'm happy for you that you know what you need, and more proud of you for your hard work for what you need."   

Lorraine smiled with tears in her eyes.
