The magic of Dicathen

[Two weeks later]

Initially, I had started to think of this life as a curse. A bad joke even. But as days and weeks passed. I couldn't help but admit that I'm proud of how far I've come. I can finally crawl around!

"Look at how cute my little angel is" Alice had been a real blessing. She took care of me with utmost care and made me feel loved through and through. "Who's the cutest, who is?"

I am of course! As I crawled in front of the mirror, I had to admit, that my parent's genetics were ridiculous. I was a really cute baby to be frank.

"Watch out ladies, my boy is coming for you" Reynolds announced proudly.

Ladies? Is that something I should pursue in this world? What about Cha...

Nevermind...

As I was finally able to crawl, I could now sneak into the study room from time to time, to gather more intelligence on this world. Two books in particular stood out as very useful to me. "Magic for Dummies" and " Dicathen, A Guidebook".

Dicathen was the name of the continent I was born on. Among it's inhabitants were humans, dwarves, elves and many many more species.

The three major kingdoms were Sapin, Darv and Elenoir.

Sapin, the human kingdom was easily the most populated and it's capital was apparently a city in the sky called Xyrus.

Darv, the dwarven kingdom, was an underground kingdom. I couldn't help but think about the times, when I used to binge "Lord of the Rings" with my sister Jinah.

The elven kingdom, Elenoir, was in the vast forests that covered the continent. Elves...that damn Frost Monarch! Get this fucker out of my head.

I learned that magic here, as I suspected was very common, and also the reason for this world's slow technological development. Basic elemental affinities such as fire magic had complex counterparts known as deviances such as lightning magic in this case. My mother was a deviant herself. She was able to use healing magic. I found this out after I accidentally cut my finger while flipping through the pages of this book.

Two basic categories of magic here were augmenting, or conjuring. Augmenting could be used to strengthen ones body or weapons. Conjuring was used to summon magic attacks for example. My father is an augmenter, whereas my mother is a conjurer.

As I learned more about magic, I realised that this could be a problem for me. What about my abilities? I know that my abilities are still inside of me, but it seems they are sealed. It must be because this body is not able to hold my power yet.

My first attempt at absorbing mana from my surroundings was... well it was interesting. After managing to concentrate a dense amount of mana in my solar plexus, I was disappointed after the energy got absorbed into my black heart. It seems I won't be able to form a mana core? But it seems like this could help me regain my power at least? What about my shadows? I'm still not able to establish a connection with my shadows.

It seems like I need to be patient, but to be honest, I don't mind. I'm starting to enjoy spending time with my family here. I'm not sure if I want to give up this chance anymore.
