Inferno

BANG!

Even between toys, differences exist.

In comparison to the unthreatening ax on Sebastian's hand, the pyrotechnic held by Joseph woke up the night.

The objective was so huge that aiming was almost unrequited.

"Whuuuuuuuuuuuu!"

The thing made what could be a yelp of pain as a bullet impacted its chest.

The tension, which was like a thin cotton thread, snapped and became a much greater agitation.

Patience crumbled, the monster sprinted with the power of a railroad heading towards them, storming as the sharp spear limbs pierced the ground to propel its speed.

The bullet had few or almost null effects!

Eva stood in front of the family, ax in hand, ready to fight.

And 'ready' wouldn't be a pure assumption, because she, before any words came out of anyone's mouth, flexed her upper body and made a sudden dash with the force cohered in her muscular thighs and calves.

The monstrous size difference seemed not to intimidate her at all.

"Eva!" Molly sobbed with concern.

Joseph raised the cannon again, this time aiming at the monster's head.

It didn't take a blink for the incarnation of the devil and the unordinary human girl to be face to face, few meters apart.

The monster braked with his left foot sweeping away a curtain of dust, such caused that his body inertia made his torso spin backward.

Suddenly, all its right limbs took the impulse to be placed at the highest point.

Surpassing the vision camp of Eva.

The colorless eyeballs looked at the prey, and prey dared to gawk in return.

Three spears raised and ready to attack, one thin girl not looking back.

"Noooooo!" Someone on the family side screamed.

The melee weapons of the monster stabbed overhead.

But Eva, who already planed the course of the fight, in the last second, flashed with the light on the face of the enemy.

Blinded, those fist-sized eyes.

Dump!

Dump!!

Dump!!!

Three thuds were heard against the ground, but not a single one could hit the brave combatant.

Instead, the sharp blades of the Axe crashed against one of the limbs with brutality!

Slash!

"Whuuuuugghhhhaaaaa!!!"

A painful scream. This time no one needed to assimilate, because the damage done was obvious.

Against wished result, the arm of the monster was still whole. But despite that, the ink-like liquid began to drip from the wound.

'The thing' was not invincible, it bleeds.

Those three right limbs were immediately taken away as a reflex headed by the wounded member. But without giving a respite, the left arms raided.

By instinct or intelligence, the attack pattern of the monster changed. Knowing that driving its spikes into the ground would make them an easy target, the three new spears sweep over a meter high to hit Eva.

However, the lass had her objectives clear from the beginning: attack and retire.

After Eva's first successful attack, she jumped out of the reach of the monster, gone by the time the attack was effected.

The spikes just came out empty.

She, was unharmed even after two rounds against the monster.

"That was…" Sebastian whispered awed.

"I'll shoot it on the head! Take the opportunity to attack." Joseph shouted.

Despite watching her daughter winning, nothing guaranteed her safety within such high intensity and concentrated combat.

Eva hits the monster, fine, it bleeds.

But if the monster hits Eva, for the smallest oversight, she could simply die… in a variety of ways.

"Do it when I tell you!" Eva yelled back.

Dodging a spear as she speaks.

In the arena, she must be a natural despot, she had to be the person controlling the rhythm.

Just as how every time the monster is blinded, every time the spears are stuck, every time the enemy is confused, her ax does not doubt counterattack.

Looking at his sister dancing on the tip of the knife, nimbly leaping in the blended darkness; the occasional moments that her light shined on that scary face, the painful sounds produced each time a piece of meat was butchered. Sebastian's fear was slowly replaced with excitement.

Unconsciously, he clenched the ax handle as if he was the person waiving the weapon against the giant, and his feet stepped forward as if those were the moves the sharp limbs couldn't follow. His gaze was full of yearning.

"Don't move, you're not your sister?" Joseph immediately put him away after the first anomaly was observed.

Sebastian halted.

'Yes, if I was as strong as Eva, we wouldn't have to depend on her all our hardest tasks.'

He stepped back.

But held his ax with more strength, reluctant, mentally preparing himself to run to help at any moment.

"Huff~" Eva breathed out.

Her face and skin were covered in monster blood.

She doesn't know what it contains, but every few seconds, they gave her an itch.

But talking of discomforts, the itch was insignificant compared to the tiredness residing in her body. Running in a circle in the forest, sometimes uphill, sometimes downhill, while carrying another person. She was not 'okay' to be fighting a giant with eight extremities.

This was not her complaint, but in her most optimal state, she wouldn't be this lamentable; rolling on the floor to elude attacks.

The constant alert was also obliterating her focus. Worse even in the plain night, she had to employ all her senses to know where the limb-spears might come from.

The flashlight held by her mother behind wasn't enough to illuminate the perimeter.

Her so-called weapon was a simple tool to chop trees instead of a real combat ax.

Those other presences are approaching at high speed as she is stuck in the fight.

She can't approach the actual body of 'the thing' to kill it.

And 'the thing' is smart enough to know that all it has to do is retain her and wait for backup.

The six spears kept attacking her untiringly.

Backtracking was not in her options.

Her family was behind.

Her parents are there.

Her brother is there.

Looking…

Dreading…

Worrying…

"AAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Slash!!!

All of the uncertainty, puzzle, stress, fear, she resumed them into a mad battle's scream!

Gripping the handle with both arms, from top to bottom, the silver ax head made a sublime circle in the air.

One of the spears was completely cut off!

It was not the result of brute force, rather it was derived from innate precision.

Cutting a bone in half was nearly impossible, but what if it was the joints of two bones.

Eva proved that possible.

"Shot it! Now!!!" Eva woke up Joseph from the shock.

The father acted immediately.

BANG!

BANG!!

BANG!!!

BANG!!!!

BANG!!!!!

Five shots one after the other to avoid missing the target.

And Eve didn't wait for the results. Her running figure appeared behind the monster.

Ax in hand, this time from left to right!

Slash!!!

The tendon on the right feet… cut off by the stroke of the blade!

Blood splattered all over the ground!

But…

It was Eva's blood.
