Chapter 2: I am different
"Jaeyun," a woman whispered.
"Jaeyun," she repeated, trying hard to crawl towards me as she shook my body.
"Jaeyun wake up," she whispered again and as I gained my consciousness I could clearly hear her sobbing. I scattered my eyes to the surroundings trying to comprehend what was happening.
"W-where are we?" I can't barely speak, my voice cracks a bit. I tried to move but my hands and legs were tied so as the woman in front of me.
"I-i don't know?" she said, trying to hold back her tears.
"Do you know who that boy is?" The voice of a man was like walking towards where we are. We can hear footsteps slowly getting louder.
"Well I am not sure who he is. He just got involved because he was trying to get in the way," another voice coming from a different man. It was like the two of them. The door opened and they entered.
"Just disposed him. We don't need him anyway. This woman is all that we need," the man walked towards her and grabbed her in the hair. She screamed while tears were falling from her eyes.
"Well, we can ask her," the other man walks towards and holds her by the neck. "Who is he?" He looked sharply in her eyes. She just gulped and her eyes were shaking as she tried to hold back herself.
"Let's just take him and maybe the chief would like him to be one of us," He grabbed my collar forcefully making me stand on my feet. My legs are still tied up trying to balance my body.
"Please don't touch him. Just let him live. Just take me because look at him. Do you think he would let a weak one be one of you? He just wants me right?," she pleaded.
"No!" I angrily screamed as they grabbed her and tried to take her out. One of the men kicked me in the stomach trying to shut me up.
"Where will you take her!!!" I tried to escape and untied my hands but my body feels weak.
"Jaeyun," She called me while crying. "I love you," she continued as the 2 men forced her.
"Jaeyun!!!" she cried. I felt a pain in the back of my neck as my sight started to get black.
Heavy breathing is filling up the place as I hold on to my chest. Tears were uncontrollably falling. I stared at the ceiling trying to calm myself down.
"That nightmare again," I rose up and caressed my hair. I look at the digital clock on my bedside table saying it was already 1am in the morning. Maybe I need some air. I grabbed my jacket and wore it.
The cold breeze of early morning hits my face as I walk still trying to calm myself. I don't wanna remember that anymore but until when will I run from it?
I suddenly realized that I entered the convenience store grabbing a dozen pieces of chocolate milk. Here we go again. I walked to the counter to pay for it.
"Hmm chocolate milk seems nice for this hour but I bet it is much better to drink it hot," she said as she scanned the barcode of the item. That voice again.
"Well that would be 10$," she added. I suddenly craved ramyeon so I instantly asked without having doubts, "by the way do you still have some stock of ramyeons?"
"Wait, I'll check in our stockroom," she said while smiling back at me. Tsk she is so weird. Her voice is an evidence that she's having a hard time as she carries the boxes towards the empty rack of ramyeons.
"Maybe you're the one who bought all the ramyeons here," she jokingly said while fixing them. She took one and handed it to me, "Here."
I looked at her coldly and grabbed the ramyeon immediately.
"Aren't you going to scan this so I can pay it already and leave?" I asked.
"Can you please help me for a while?" She looked at me while smiling. Why does she keep on smiling? Is she a broken machine or something?
"Tsk," I grabbed the box and started to fill up the racks. The cup of ramyeons scattered on the floor because she accidentally pushed them. What a clumsy human being. I closed my eyes and massage the temple of my head. She panicked and picked up the ramyeons and checked if some were dented.
I annoyingly grabbed the cups of ramyeons on the floor. I suddenly felt a pain in my head and she groaned in pain as she gently rubbed her forehead.
"Ouch," I barely even hear her so I fixed the device and my hoodie. Because of her panicking she hit me in the head.
"That was hard. It was like you had metal in your head," she said in pain. I looked away and proceeded to the counter.
"Can you please scan this. I already need to leave," She forcibly walked into the counter and did what she needed to do.
Before I left the store she unexpectedly said, "I knew it."
I stopped.
Did she noticed it?
"I can see it through your eyes," she continued.
A breath of relief escaped out of my lungs.
"Even if you talkless, your eyes can't hide it anymore," I didn't understand what she was saying.
I opened the glass door and stepped my foot out as she continued to speak, "btw If you need someone to talk to, just go here."
I walked out and ignored what she said.
I don't need anyone.
I don't need any help.
She wouldn't understand.
She wouldn't
Because I'm different.
Ryeji's POV
It's quite hard to unpack some ramyeons. My back hurts. This isn't supposed to be my job and I hate it. My phone rang suddenly.
"So how's the job?" I didn't even have a chance to say a single thing.
"Didn't expect that this would be hard. He barely talks. It feels like he was preserving himself and doesn't trust anyone that easily"
"Just keep an eye on him. We need to gain his trust,"
"Noted-" I didn't finish because he already hung up the phone.
What an arrogant man. If it is not for that thing I wouldn't do this.
