Chapter 16

'What does she mean there's no time left' I thought to myself. "what did you have a nightmare or something" Xavier asked continuing to drive "the world itself is a nightmare" I replied. "true" he said not taking his eyes off the road.

"So how much longer till we get to Danville?" I asked "about an hour if we continue at this pace" said Xavier. "wait how long was I out for?" I asked concerned "3 hours Haley tried to wake you but you wouldn't budge if you weren't breathing we would have thought you died" Antonio said answering my Question.

"huh" was all I said 'it didn't even feel like that long' I thought to myself as I stared out the window. we continued driving, weaving in and out of vehicles that crashed the day this hell started and eventually got to our destination.

we decided to spend the night in a church until we could find a better solution, for the coming days. though it was only September we had to make a decision on what we would do for winter which was right around the corner.

"let's only unpack the blankets and pillows we brought along with enough food for the night" I said to everyone. "and any kids can wait inside the church for now" I continued. we were lucky, though we had a huge group there weren't many children probably about 4 total.

after about a half hour we finished unpacking what was needed and the rest of the group began to set up spots for their bedding while our little counsel worked on deciding where we would go from here.

"tomorrow some of us should go out and look for a hotel or something that isn't infested with zombies" I said "I doubt a hotel just wouldn't have any zombies in it" Will said "if there are we could always kill them" Antonio cut in. "but what if there are to many" Will replied. "maybe we should just move down south that way the winter won't affect us as bad" Tyler said. with all the accidents on the road it would take us months just to get there" I replied

"for now let's just check out the town and go from there take it one step at a time we still have about 2 months" I said "if that's the only safe option with all the people we have then I'm fine with it" Mae agreed.

"No visions or dreams" I said to mae sarcastically "they come when they want to" she replied. "all right that's enough for now that's a good deal with the food I'm sure everyone out there is hungry" I said and everyone walked out of the office like room that we had snuck into. "you're awfully quiet today" I said to my brother who had remained "since the one who's awfully vicious today" he replied as I rolled my eyes. "you coming?" I asked "in a minute" he replied.

"ok" I said exiting the office.

XAVIER'S POV

after she left the office I walked over to the desk and began opening the drawers 'i know it's here' I thought to myself. after a minute I finally found it. the thing I was looking for was a cross with diamond imbued into it. it may have seemed like an ordinary cross but in reality it could give the wearer immunity to the infection.

I slipped across into my pocket and left the office. I noticed all the bedding set up across the benches and floor and that they had already begun feeding all of the other people. 'in the past my sister would have sacrificed all these lies in order to live I'm curious as to what changed her' I thought to myself as I saw her personally handing out food.

AMELIA'S POV

after a few minutes of me handing out food to the people in our group I noticed Xavier finally came out of the office. he just stood in a doorway watching everyone, like in a way he was questioning their lives.

*cough* I heard and looked to see a small child about Ava's age coughing. I walked over to the mother who was with her coughing son "is he ok" I asked kneeling to the ground they were sitting on "he has a fever" she replied with a worried look on her face "I'll go see if we have some medicine" I said standing up "thank you" she said.

I walked over to Will "do we have medicine theirs a kid over there who's sick" I I said pointing in the direction that I had come. "I'll go check" he replied then walking away. I sat down on one of the churches benches and leaned into the seats looking up at the ceiling. 'its definitely different from before' I thought to myself. "is everything okay?" Sam asked popping out of nowhere "you scared me" I said looking at her a little surprised "sorry" she said sitting down next to me.

"so is everything okay?" she asked again. "well considering our current predicament I'd say so" I replied "I'm sure you're really stressed out" she said. "what do you mean?" I asked. "well let me in with everything happening" she said "I mean you led what was left of your family then you took in more survivors and led them then took more survivors in when you didn't have to" she continued "then you got shot, so if you're not stressed out I'd be kind of shocked" she chuckled awkwardly.

"yeah I guess I am a little stressed" I replied "but there's nothing I can do about it I'm not just going to let these people die" I continued "if you ever need someone to talk to I'm here even if we don't know each other well" she said "I remember that thanks" I replied.

"I found some cough medicine" Will said walking up from behind us. "thanks they should help at least a little" I said with a slight smile. "oh my God Jeffrey" I heard a familiar voice say and quickly stood up "that's the kid's mom's voice" I said then ran over to where she was with Will and Sam following behind.

"what's going on!" I said frantically "he's infected" she cried.
