"Dammit I was so close" I said throwing a notebook to the ground "hey what's going on Jarred said running into the lab "there's no way I'll be able to create a cure no matter how hard I try the people who are infected are stuck like that and I can't fix it" I yelled pushing him away.
he sighed "then don't create a cure" he said and I turned and looked at him confused "we talked about you attempting to make one but even you said it might not be possible" Jarred said walking over to me once again. "just focus on what you can do" he continued.
I sighed "plan B it is" I said walking over to an infected blood sample "I need to start with every item. on the periodic table that isn't toxic to humans" I said turning to my cousin.
over the next few weeks all I did was stay in the lab, sleep and eat. I wanted to see my group but my cousin said it would only excite them if they saw me before the cure was made.
after another month I finally accomplished making the cure by mixing calcium, magnesium, selenium, zinc, potassium and a powder that I found on the piece of the comet the only thing left to do was the official test.
"Mel let's go!" Jarred said running into the lab "where?" I asked confused "your group 40% have turned and my soldiers can't hold them back" he said fast. I quickly grabbed a case and shoved all of the cures I made into it then ran out the door and followed Jarred.
after a while we got to the church and ran inside "take down the undead and separate anyone who was infected and hasn't turned from those who aren't infected" I said carefully laying the case on the ground.
they began to shoot at the undead taking them out one by one until they had finally taken all of them out. I ran to Sam and hugged her "Sam I know this is weird but I'm just glad to see all of you" I said "we're glad to see you to" she said hugging me back.
"did you actually make a cure" she asked releasing me from the hug "sort of" I said "it can't cure the undead but it should be able to cure the infected who haven't turned" I continued. "should?" Xavier asked walking over to us "it hasn't been tested on humans yet only blood vessels" I replied looking towards him.
"wait are you gonna still inject that into people untested?" Sam asked concerned "we don't have a choice if we don't do it they'll become undead if they do they could either die or become cured either way there is a risk so I'm gonna take the risk that can possibly help them survive" I said uncertainty in my voice.
"Miss Wayne were ready" a soldier said said with multiple needles of the cure around him "tell the infected what it is before you inject it if they don't want it then let them be" I said turning to face the soldier.
one by one the soldiers that were left began asking the infected in the group if they wanted the cure, they couldn't make any promises of how or even if it would work. of course not everyone wanted to take that risk the ones who didn't takes it eventually became undead after 24hours and the ones who took the cure didn't change at all.
"it really worked" a woman who took the cure said in relief as her eyes filled with tears. I sat down on the ground leaning against the wall in reality it had been around 2 months since I began the attempt to make a cure that never even existed in my previous life.
Since I came back the only thing I had wanted to do was change the future so my brother and I survived. But it seems I changed more then I originally anticipated, to the point of seeing my family and making new friends though I'm in the same body I was in even I can tell I've completely changed.
"so how many sleepless nights did you have?" Tyler asked sitting down next to me "let's just say once or twice a week for the past 2 months is when I slept" I chuckled slightly. "you should rest then" Tyler said with a slight smile. "there's still so much to do" I replied looking at him.
"but if your exhausted you also need to sleep" he said brushing my hair back behind my ear. "I need to help the others" I said standing up and dusting myself off "I'll see you later" I said once more with a slight smile then walking away towards Sam and Xavier.
"so now that everything's been delt with can anyone tell what was with this sudden spike?" I asked confused. "it wasn't sudden it's been like this for the last month" Sam said "what?" I questioned. she looked at Xavier he nodded then she Continued.
"over the last 2 months the soldiers have been holding us hostage in the church, they wouldn't let us go and get supplies so a lot of our sick ended up turning since we couldn't get any antibiotics" she said "no way" I said looking down at the ground "it's true" will said walking over to us "I'd say there's only about 30 people left now" he said.
I turned and walked away from will Sam and Xavier "where are you going?" Sam asked "to deal with Jarred" I replied angrily as I continued to walk away.
"bring me Jarred" I said to a soldier who was blocking the office that Jarred was currently inside of "I'm sorry but I" he said before I used my shadow and threw him to the side while bursting the door open at the same time.
"what the hell Mel" he said as I entered the office. I then used my shadow and pinned him tightly against the wall. "2 months Jarred 2 fucking months I was making that cure and you couldn't hold up your end of the deal I yelled. "what are you talking about" he struggled to say "how dare you keep my people from surviving and force them to stay in a crowded church where they could all potentially become infected" I yelled once more.
