Chapter 44

Kane had done much in preparation for the coming war. Most of the things he had left to do could not be completed right away so now Kane was unsure of what to do in the meantime.

Kane sat on his throne thinking when one of his honor guards came rushing in. The guard seemed to have an urgent matter as he did not even take a chance to catch his breath.

"My lord a scout has reported that the orcs are on their way! They are heading in full force and number over 2000! They have a multitude of beasts with them! They will be here within the day!"

Kane was shocked at this news. He thought he had more time. Not all the preparations were ready and his forces were scattered.

"Hurry! I want messengers sent to every camp to gather everyone! Anyone outside the wall is to head back. I want everything to be set up and all men to get ready to fight. Make sure the trolls are on the walls and bring out all the oil we have!"

Kane gave his commands before going to change into his armor. He still has a defensive advantage thanks to the wall but he was unsure if he would be able to completely defeat the orcs. Hopefully, Urg and Grat had come through with their sabotage.

Kane was also curious whether the traps and troops he set up in the forest would slow down the approaching forces. He had hidden n many goblins and kobolds in between the orcs and himself and hopefully they could cause some damage before the orcs arrived.

Looks like war was on its way and it was coming fast. Kane may not have been fully prepared for it but it did not matter. He would tackle the challenge and he had faith that he would still win.

The ground shook under the storm of beasts that were currently riding towards the Iron Rose Kingdom. Loud yelling could be heard coming from the orcs riding the beasts. If someone were to look at this group they would undoubtedly crap their pants and faint. The group numbered in the thousands and all were armed to the teeth.

A group of 6 orcs rode ahead on brown tiger-looking creatures. They held bows and spears and were the designated scouts of the orc army. They were laughing while riding and looked very excited for the coming battle. It was shamed they were not doing their duties because if they did then maybe they would have lived to see the battle.

The lead orc scout had turned back to respond to his subordinate's comment when a spear came flying through the back of his head and out his right eyeball instantly killing him. The beast underneath him as well as the other six beasts all tripped on a rope that had been placed in between 2 trees.

Before the orc scouts had a chance to react and get up a rain of spears and arrows descended upon them. The scouts did not stand a chance and were all killed.

The group of orcs who were behind them had seen this and stopped their riding. They called to the orcs behind them to get the army to halt. The ambush had only just begun though and the orcs were immediately bombarded by unseen enemy's weapons.

The orcs managed to block most of them with only a few being hit. When the projectiles had ceased the orcs all let out a breath. That's when a bunch of goblins jumped down from the trees onto the orcs and latched on their faces. They used daggers to repeatedly stab the orcs and one goblin even ripped out the eye of an orc and ate it.

When other orcs came to reinforce their comrades a loud swishing could be heard as well as the snapping of ropes. Before the reinforcements could help a huge log came swinging toward them and crushing their skulls.

At the same time, more arrows and spears could be seen and many of the orcs in the front had to take cover.

The orc commanders were getting more and more upset with the ambush and sent in more orcs to deal with it. This led to bigger losses for them until finally, they were able to kill the perpetrators. What made the orcs even angrier was that the force ambushing them consisted of kobolds and goblins.

Gashna even slammed the head of an orc next to him into the dirt and yelled out loud. The battle had not even started and he had already lost many fighters.

"I will grind their bones into bread, turn their skin into cloths, and drink grog out their skulls!" Gashna said before commanding his army to continue to the kingdom.

The trip made the orc leader even angrier as the army was ambushed many more times after this and many orcs became fertilizer for the surrounding forest.
