Donal gave Julio a mysterious smile. “Etienne Daurensbourg, this is my friend, Julio Reyes.”

Etienne put out his hand and shook Julio’s. His eyes widened.

A spark ran from Julio’s hand to that of Alexei’s friend, and he saw a golden thread, thin as fishing line running from his heart to Etienne’s chest. He rubbed his eyes. When he went out for groceries yesterday, something gave him the creeps. It had felt like someone was dogging his steps, but when he’d looked around, no one was there.
