Chapter 27

“You won’t slip, and the others love you.” Alexei got up from his chair and moved closer to Donal.

“Your friends’ husbands feel sorry for me now. Maybe they even like me a little. But soon they’ll catch on to the fact that I’ll bring you down.” Donal impatiently wiped the tears from his face with his sleeve. Alexei patted his knee and handed him another handkerchief.

Donal really needs Kane and Eugene. He is definitely depressed. He has an extremely poor self-image. I have to let him know that he’s already been chosen, that the gods deem him worthy. Alexei looked at the clock. It was already eleven. Armand is going to be annoyed that I’m pulling him out of bed. But, if I don’t, Donal will leave tonight and make sure I never find him again, or gods forbid, take his own life in despair.

“You have to know that what I’m saying is the truth,” Donal said as another tear escaped and rolled down his cheek.
