Gabriel Martin has hope. Three of the Alphas on the council have found mates in the past few years. Returning to New York from Atlanta, he comes across a human who has been raped in an alleyway. “Yet, you defied him.” The tips of Kane’s ears turned red. Gabriel thought that if his face weren’t so bruised today it would be as red with embarrassment as it was last night before the swelling. “Because the crime of rape is so abhorrent to our people and Murphy is one of our own, he lost it. He said, ‘Lady, the culture of your school is established from the top. If you had come down hard on the coach about the lack of respect for academics in the athletic department, the others would have stood up too.’” Gabriel squeezed Kane’s hand.


“Murphy reported that now that Hughes was arrested, six of your colleagues came forward to testify. They said that they too had been intimidated and harassed by Coach Hughes who forced them to pass students that were failing their classes.”


“I didn’t know there were others. They all stayed away from me because Coach Hughes was a homophobe…guilt by association.” Kane tried to change position, then smothered a moan of pain.
