Chapter 15

Agnes smiled, “I use steel cut oats, the kind you have to cook, then I added your maple syrup and some brown sugar.”

“Thank you. That brought back fond memories.”

Gabriel stood. “Let’s go take that shower. Luckily the bump on your head didn’t need stitches. But I’m going to have to wash your hair. Otherwise, you’ll get shampoo in your eyes.”

They passed a full-length mirror as Gabriel helped him limp to the bathroom Kane stopped and gaped in horror. That pitiful creature in the mirror was him. Another tear escaped. He turned his head away from Gabriel. He noticed a thin golden thread no wider than a hair connecting him to Gabriel. Maybe my eyes are worse than I thought.

Gabriel turned the fancy shower on a setting he told Kane was called rain. The water came down in droplets that hurt less on his bruised skin. Gabriel had to stop him from using the net scrubber so hard that he nearly bled.
