Chapter 22

“I have no temper unless someone I love is threatened. I’m the head of my family, but I persuade rather than command, and that has always worked well for me. But with you, it’s different. I find myself impatient with you. I need you to see how much I love you. I can’t be fully open with you until you know I’m telling you the truth.”

A lone tear slipped down Marc’s cheek. Colin glanced up and, seeing the tear, caught it with his finger. “No one has ever cried over me. My mother cried over my scar, but never over me. You gave me a tear.” Colin’s gaze locked onto Marc’s face with wonder.

“I believe you,” Colin said. “You do love me. I don’t know how or why but I’m not going to question you. I think I love you too and have since I walked in here with four bags of Chinese food, and you asked me to stay for dinner.”
