Chapter 12

“We should go downstairs before Lee has a paddy.” I averted my gaze, feeling my cheeks burn red hot as I slipped passed him and began to make my way down to the kitchen.

I could feel his eyes on me all the way and my skin burned with feverishness for his touch.

Stop it. I warned myself that last night may have been a one-time only thing. I had no claims to either of them. We had been drunk and grieving yet another failed IVF round. That should be all there was to it. And yet I couldn’t help but feel as though it had been so much more.

“Good morning, beautiful,” Lee greeted me as soon as I entered the kitchen. It was nothing unusual. He always called me beautiful. Yet there was a new tone to his voice that I hadn’t heard before. I liked it. Maybe a little too much.

“What smells so good?” I replied as I slipped onto the breakfast bar.

“Pancakes with bacon, eggs and maple syrup.” Lee smirked at me as my eyes lit up. “Your favourite.”
