Chapter 18

After looking at my hair in the mirror I decided it wasn’t quite good enough and used the decorative chopsticks my parents had brought back from Japan to make a messy up-do. Several loose strands of hair fell and framed my face, grazing my collar bone.

I had just slipped my feet into a pair of charcoal single banded sandal heels when the sound of the doorbell rang throughout the apartment. My heart hammered in my chest. There were two options on who might be at the door; one exhilarating and the other absolutely terrifying.

Determined to find out quickly, I hurried through the apartment on shaking legs and pressed the intercom button. “Hello?”

“Hey beautiful!” Lee’s friendly greeting was a welcome relief and I quickly pressed the button beside the intercom to release the front door.

“Come on up.” I spoke through the intercom as I always did, even though I knew that Lee and Dale both knew what the lock release sounded like by now.
