Chapter 27

“Smell that fresh air,” she said, marveling at the beauty around us.

“This is all we need.”

She squeezed my hand in reply.

“And so much better than tenting isn’t it?”

“Definitely,” I said, taking out the key to the door from my jacket pocket.

We stood on the porch for a while taking in the picturesque view. We were lucky enough to have a cabin resting on the edge of the lake. During the day bird life flourished here, people fished, canoed, and swam when the weather was warmer, but for us this was perfect, no one was around. We almost had the lake to ourselves.

Opening the door, we entered the cabin breathing in the scent of earthiness, the wooden furniture, and the aroma of percolated coffee still lingered in the air.

“Just perfect,” Sonja said, moving over to the cabinet to pour us both a scotch.

I lit a fire and as it blazed in the hearth, I pulled her back onto the couch and kissed her hard on the mouth.

“You happy?” I asked.

“You bet.”
