Chapter 7

As he collected the clothes strewn on the floor, a thud from the bedroom arrested his attention. He could probably make a sprint for the door to get security, but he didn’t know how many intruders could be lurking. He took hold of his shoe and held it defensively and quietly made his way to the bathroom door, which he’d left wide open. Stalking slowly to the room’s door, away from the room’s interior, he heard a low expletive followed by a sigh, something he’d become all too familiar with over the past three months. It was the telltale sounds of an exasperated Martin.
