“First of all, Ethan,” Kim continued. “I’d like to congratulate you on your engagement. I’m so happy for you.”
Ethan felt his smile slip from his face. Engagement—the announcement of his and Lea’s marriage that he hadn’t even been told about before it had been made! It was supposed to still be a secret between him and Lea. He’d been having second thoughts about it but he couldn’t do anything about that now. Not after the news had spread all over the country. Yeah, he was happy all right.
Clearing his throat—he realized belatedly he’d imitated Alex—Ethan bowed his head slightly and said his thanks. “I’m happy, too,” he added, almost grimacing at his own dry tone. His gaze wandered to the side of the stage and he caught sight of Lea standing there. She waved at him and blew him a kiss. Ethan’s lips pressed tightly into what he imagined to be a smile.
Another picture that was so wrong, he thought grimly. What was Lea doing in this place?
Where was Alex?
