Owen laughed and added, “If you’re desperate for an explanation, you could look to the day. It’s the Wiccan holiday Samhain—your Halloween—the day the dead return.”

Marc’s reflex would have been a flat denial that such things ever happened. But he couldn’t form the words. How could he argue with the evidence gobbling tuna at his feet?

Owen patted Marc’s arm and, smiling, said, “Well, there’s another possibility.”

Marc didn’t think he was going to like this one any better.

“Maybe Gideon’s return from the dead was meant to return us—our relationship—from the dead. Maybe that’s what shifted in the spell when I didn’t finish it.”

“You didn’t finish it?” Well, that was good. No spell. That was more evidence that Marc’s infatuation was just plain old all-natural attraction with a heavy dose of lust.
