Chapter 35

Sirens were now audible in the distance and Trey breathed a sigh of partial relief.

The bone deep ache was still there, just not as bad as before and part of his leg felt numb. Faint background sounds of footsteps and conversations filtered into Landon??s awareness, and he forced his eyes open for a moment before they crashed shut again. Hospital. Again. Fuck.

It could have been anywhere from a minute to an hour before he managed to open his eyes again. There was someone near him. He turned his head a couple of degrees and saw Trey sitting beside the bed. He could feel Trey??s warm hands cupped around one of his own.

??You scared the shit out of me,?? said Trey.

It took a while for Landon??s pain and drug-fogged brain to process the comment. Perez and the freaking machete. So hyped on adrenaline, he hadn??t realized until after he??d climbed into the Escalade that it was more than just a little slice. ??Sorry,?? he whispered, mouth dry and throat sore.
