Chapter 30

Mount Pillar Cemetery

I hustled home, took a quick shower, shaved, and threw on a black suit. Then I picked up Francine at her apartment on Category Street, and drove us to Mount Pillar Cemetery on the east side of town.

“This is a shitty day, Johnny. I don’t know if I’m going to get through it,” Francine said at my side, bouncing up and down inside my Avalanche. She was miserable, just as the day seemed to be panning out. Her face was as ashen-grey as the sky and tears rolled out of her eyes like drops of rain falling out of the clouds. She was devastated, still perplexed why Bodice was killed, just like me.
