“That’s such an irritating habit.”

“What?”

“Finishing my sentences. How can you possibly know—”

“Because I do.” She blew him a kiss. “We’re kindred souls, you and I. On the same wavelength and have been since we met. You know that’s true, sweetie.”

“Mmm. You always know everything, don’t you?”

“Don’t be irritable, Les.”

“That’s the pot. You’re the irritable one. I mean, given your condition. I’m depressed. I want my Edward!”

“You’re beginning to sound like a two-year old.”

“I am not,” he fired back.

“Are too, and please leave my condition out of it. It’s like you said. I’m bored to tears. Full stop. I can do anything you can do and in this goddamn condition to boot.” She let out another long, audible sigh. “Damn. I thought sure we were onto something with those letters, but now—”

“You wanted a puzzle to solve, but maybe this isn’t one. The letters and deaths could be coincidence. Not every event has a mystery at its heart. It just is. Happens.”
