He couldn’t let her be manhandled anymore by that cold Russian bastard. The time for holding back was over. He’d find an opportunity to act and grab it with both hands.

The next week dragged on for Danny. Preparations were in full swing for the family reunion scheduled for the following Saturday, but he wasn’t really involved. And Evan spent much of his time away from the mansion, including two overnight trips Danny dearly wanted to ask about, but didn’t. As promised, he gave Evan lots of space and treasured whatever time Evan could share with him.

Surprisingly, competition for Evan’s time came from Katie. A solid friendship was rapidly growing between her and Evan. Every other sentence out of Katie’s mouth these days began with “Evan says…” or “Evan thinks…” or “Evan told me…”
