Chapter 37

For Danny the next hour was a blur of greeting guests, playing host, renewing old acquaintances and, most importantly, introducing Evan. The surprise black sheep fiancé was quite the attraction. For the most part, Evan seemed to be holding up just fine. Although Danny could see lines of tension around his eyes and mouth. For a private, solitary person, this amount of avid interest in him had to be excruciating.

Danny finally disengaged from the chatty, older lady who had been clinging to his arm while trying to sort out just how they were related. It was time to give Evan a break. He grabbed a bottle of water from the bar and made his way over to his long-suffering fiancé.

Coming up behind him, he murmured in Evan’s ear, “Can you come help with something for a minute?”
