They arrived at the Carmody house a little before two A.M. When the gates opened, Evan woke. He rubbed his eyes and scratched his head.
Despite the situation, Danny couldn’t help but appreciate how appealing Evan looked when he’d just awakened. But he hid his smile. When they arrived at the garage, he asked, “Do you want to take my car? There’s still plenty of gas left.”
Evan opened the car door. “Thanks, but I’d better take mine. I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
“Will you call me when you get there?”
Glancing at his watch, he said, “It’ll be around four in the morning, you know.”
“I know.”
Evan finally nodded. “Okay.” He grabbed his duffle bag and headed for his car.
