Chapter 14

If anyone ever finds out I drew those damn Angry Birds, there goes my street cred,he thinks, bemused.

He leaves the iPhone where it rests and returns to his soup, which is cold now but still tasty. He savors every last spoonful, trying to ignore the fact that, every few sips, he glances out the window as if he expects to see Evie’s father returning for the phone. When the bowl is empty, he takes his time packing away his sketchbook and pencils, waiting.

Waiting.

Waiting.

Finally Brody has to admit it—the guy isn’t coming back. They were going to the movies, he’d said, and Brody can only imagine how unmanageable Evie would be if she missed the film. The guy probably doesn’t even realize the iPhone was left behind. Most likely he assumes Evie still has it, if he even knew she’d taken it in the first place.

So…what to do?
