Chapter 13

Midnight Eaton didn’t have any aspirations to hit it big on Drag Race or to record an album—she lip-synched, for one thing, and so didn’t have any numbers that hadn’t already been recorded—but she loved putting on sparkles and getting up on stage. She loved having a place to come where she could dance, and (pretend to) sing, and tell jokes or pop off about whatever was on her mind, where she wasn’t judged for being fat or for being Mexican or for being a garbage collector. Sure, she was judged for being a big dude in a dress, but she pulled that off flawlessly, and she didn’t see the harm in being judged as awesome.
