“Is he gonna make me eat vegetables?” Erik asked Ashok.

“You can pick em out,” Ashok assured his friend.

The rice turned out like buck shot in hot garlic mud, but the fish was tender and tasty and the vegetables steamed to perfection—even Erik ate his broccoli, which Ashok assured Danny was an unprecedented culinary happening.

“I think I’m ready to tackle the flan,” Danny announced when the dinner was declared a success.

“Tin foil dishwasher flan,” Erik pondered.

“I think you make it in a bowl,” Ashok said.

“Let’s find out,” Danny suggested, rising and leaving the deck.
