“For one, look how Hilary and Jennie have got on.”
“I thought you were worried about their budding relationship, how it might interfere with your treatment plans?”
Hal waved his comment away. “I came to my senses, okay? Hilary thought she’d never find love again, and it’s clear she’s found something with Jennie.”
“Possibly for the moment. But will it last?”
“Does anything?” Hal asked. “Will we?”
“Don’t press your luck.” Guy leaned back and let Hal go to work on his neck. “Mm. Feels good. Keep going.”
“Sarah, who by her own admission sticks pretty much to herself, hasn’t had a real friend in ages, if ever, and it appears Vera is becoming a good one. We both know how Vera can use a more stable, mature presence in her life.”
Guy nodded.
“Yes, on that we agree. Vera’s mother may never get over her husband’s crime, and is probably headed for a nervous breakdown. It’s only a matter of time, wouldn’t you agree?”
“Mm. That does feel better. A little more to the right.”
