At first, Flynn wasn’t sure it was the same guy. Then Tony responded loudly, “No thanks! I’ll just wait here.” It was his voice. The same voice had whispered sweet nothings in Flynn’s ear, had comforted him when they were both taunted, had screeched at him to get out after he admitted his weakness and betrayal. Flynn could have picked that voice out of a chorus.
Yet now Flynn couldn’t find the courage to say anything. Fear weighed down on his tongue and welded his mouth shut. He wanted to cry out and tell Tony he was sorry, but his nerves would not allow it. He chided himself for his cowardice. You lost him because you didn’t know how to speak up when you had the chance. Don’t make that mistake again.
