Chapter 8

What would happen now? Are they going to murder me? I’ll never see home again.

It had grown dark in the cabin and George could just make out their shapes as they crossed the room. Two of them entered the bedroom. The third lit two kerosene lanterns and Cullen’s handsome face peered out of the gloom.

“What are you going to do to me?” George said in a low voice, dreading the answer.

Cullen smiled down at him. “We’re going to keep you here tonight and then decide what to do with you later. Daddy wants to keep you tied up tonight but I’m going to make you more comfortable.”

“Can I at least go to the bathroom?”

Cullen paused and then called to Daddy, who came out of the bedroom. He untied George and led him outside the back door into the trees. An outhouse appeared out of the darkness in the glow from the lamp Cullen carried.

“Are you kidding me?” George was incredulous and disgusted.

“It’s either there or in the woods,” Daddy said.
