Chapter 4

I did play with the new neighbors. They both had Middle Eastern and American names, just so the other kids wouldn’t tease them for being different while they were too young to understand why. The older girl, Eman, went by “Emma” at school and was ten, while Jessenia, or “Jess” as I usually called her, was seven going on eight. They liked to play ‘house’ and took turns being the wife while I was the husband. Our house was the jungle gym at the park and whichever sister wasn’t being the wife would come over for tea. I thought it was a silly game, but Leon was happy that the three of us got along.
