Chapter 37

“Are you trying to seduce me?” Sharon said around the kiss, feeling Pilar’s lips twist into a smile under hers, the words muffled.

“Only if that’s a no. Otherwise, I’m successfullyseducing you.”

Just not to be Sharon for a while. To forget about endless dishes and lacrosse games and dirty socks on the floor. Loads of laundry, never quite completed. The mindless droning of PTA meetings and the monthly bitch sessions at her coffee club. They never actually talkedabout the books; half of them probably never even cracked the cover. For one night. A return to being Roni, crazy and wild. The girl who never knew what a mutual fund was. Who couldn’t care less about the latest political scandal. The one who hovered in the wings of the stage, the one who knew the joys of a life unplanned, who wasn’t on a strict calendar schedule.

Just to be Roni.

“Guess it’s good that I saved room for dessert.”
