Trey sighs. It’s not easy to talk to a person who has such low self-esteem, especially one on the brink of desperation.
“Go for the test, Jesse. Do your best. Don’t think about what others see or think. People do look for talents as well you know, not just a pretty face.”
“You think so?” Jesse looks uncertain though there’s also a flash of hope there, like a peek of sunlight filtering through a storm cloud.
“I know so,” Trey says, trying to put as much conviction in his voice as he possibly can.
He pulls Jesse up to sit beside him on the bed, very much aware of Jesse’s near nudity. Jesse doesn’t seem to realize the effect he has on Trey.
“Brent’s not going to like it.”
Brent? Now what has this got to do with Brent? Could it be—?
“Brent did this to you?” Trey hisses and digs his fingers into Jesse’s arms without realizing it. Jesse winces.
