Chapter 28

“Like the new truck, man,” Wayne called out as Barry parked next to Jimmy and Jake’s vehicle.

“Thanks,” Barry said, already feeling more a part of the ranch.

“Thank God you didn’t get a blue or a red one,” Liam snickered.

Barry hadn’t thought of that. But, yes, he was lucky it was green.

Barry hopped out of his truck and reached in for the bag of last minute groceries he’d needed to put the finishing touches to Jimmy’s birthday dinner. Jimmy had wanted to go with him to the supermarket, but Barry had insisted he was fine going alone, and besides, it would spoil the surprise if Jimmy accompanied him.

Jimmy had reluctantly agreed and they’d parted ways after Jimmy had assured himself Barry had known his way back to the Double J.

Grocery bags in hand, Barry backed out of the truck and felt someone goose him.

“What the…” Spinning around he was surprised to see Rex, a doggy grin on his brown muzzle.

Liam laughed. “Bet you thought it was one of the J’s.”
