Chapter 54

“This’ll be the first time I’ve eaten here since Barry took over the kitchen,” Wayne said

“Yeah. Used to like eating here, but Barry has ruined us for anything but his own cooking,” Liam added.

“Thanks.” Barry dipped his head. The men showed him every day by cleaning their plates how much they enjoyed his cooking, but it was nice to be told.

“It’s true,” Rory added softly. “Your cooking is the greatest.”

Barry smiled. “Thanks, Rory.”

“As Barry saw his first morning on the ranch, we’re all crap at cooking,” Jake said. “So it was either eat here or at the cantina.”

There was a collective groan around the booth.

Barry assumed the cantina didn’t have a good reputation.

“What’s good here?” Barry asked, looking over his menu. He knew one thing, he wouldn’t be ordering the fried chicken.

“The steaks are pretty good,” Rory said.

Everyone agreed. Barry and Rory chose eight ounce sirloins while the others asked the waitress for “half a cow and just show it the grill.”
