Chapter 64

“First thing I’m doing when we get back is taking a shower,” Jimmy said, sniffing an armpit.

Barry thought Jimmy smelled wonderful, but he knew it better to keep that to himself. His cowboys knew enough of his kinks without him revealing more.

“Yeah, me, too,” Jake said, turning the corner into the ranch yard.

“Fuck! What the hell is he doing here?” Jimmy growled.

Barry looked. A cowboy in his late sixties, still somewhat in shape but with the beginnings of a paunch was getting into an old and rust-stained pickup. On seeing their arrival, he straightened and turned to face them. Barry immediately saw the family resemblance. But where Jimmy often smiled, his dad wore an expression of total disgust. Barry bet the man’s features hardly ever changed.

Jake rolled down the window at his side and waited for the older cowboy to come to them. “Keep calm,” he said under his breath.

Barry didn’t know if the advice was meant for Jimmy or for Jake himself.
