Chapter 66

Barry had discovered Jimmy’s mother was a chocoholic. He’d confided that although there were many things he loved about America—he’d forced himself not to allow his gaze to stray over to Jimmy—he didn’t like the country’s chocolate. Fortunately, Swiss chocolate was available in some of the stores and online.

“Hey, how come you never give me any of that chocolate?” Jimmy protested.

“I feed you plenty, buster,” Barry said, reaching back into his bag and pulling out a second bar.

“Thanks, man.” Jimmy’s radiant smile rivaled some of Jake’s better efforts.

Jimmy bent down to no doubt give Barry a kiss but must have remembered his mother was present so rubbed his nose instead.

“You make my Jimmy happy,” Bess said slowly.

Barry chose his words carefully. “It’s my job to keep him well fed. And that seems to make him happy.”

She fixed Barry with a look. “Do you love him?”
