Chapter 49

I didn’t hear the door open, but saw Xavier standing a few inches from me as I hastened to put the phone away.

“You ready?”

“I think so. So what’s the game plan, Xavier?”

“There’s an agent following Ivan right now. He’s moved from a bar off Washington to a dance club, and it looks like he is trying to get some action.”

“What does that mean? Guns, drugs, what?”

Xavier leveled his eyes. “Umm, sex.” 26

The way we dressed for the night, I felt like I was the one who came off the tourist bus from Minnesota, while Xavier appeared like he belonged on South Beach, dressed to impress, ready to dance in every gay club in town. His perfect teeth, hair and style were more befitting a cover model for the local magazine. He ditched the suit back in the hotel, while I wore a white shirt I brought and jeans. He insisted I wear his suit vest, tie, and fedora to cover my face partially if needed.
