Chapter 7

What is he doing here? Can’t Declan have come by himself?Parker’s stomach knotted and sweat broke on his brow despite the cold, air-conditioned lobby. His fists tightened at his sides, his bag forgotten on the floor. Parker bitterly realized that Ryan had lied to him and Declan never really loved him.

He saw Ryan come up next to Declan and say something to him while pointing at the hotel doors. Then he took Declan’s upper arm, and Parker could see that not once did Declan seem to want to shake off Ryan’s hand. Parker also saw that they didn’t only exchange words. There were also caring glances and gentle pats bordering on intimacy.

Declan walked toward the door and Parker made up his mind. He knew he had to admit defeat. If Declan wouldn’t be the one who said farewell, he would.

A hesitant voice startled him and he turned around to face several hopeful pairs of eyes.

“Uh, yeah.” In spite of himself, he smiled. “What can I do for you, ladies?”
